Week 1 of 14
Creation to Sinai
Days 1 to 7: Genesis 1 to Exodus 33, 83 chapters.
The first week covers more ground than any other. Genesis opens with creation, the fall and the flood, then narrows to one family: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. Watch the promise God makes to Abraham in chapter 12, because the rest of the Bible keeps coming back to it. By day 5 you are in Exodus, where that family has become a nation of slaves in Egypt. The plagues, the Passover and the crossing of the sea lead to Mount Sinai, where God gives the law, and where Israel breaks it almost at once with the golden calf.
Watch for the promise to Abraham in Genesis 12.
I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who treats you with contempt. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.”Genesis 12:2-3
