Week 5 of 14
Exile and the long look back
Days 29 to 35: 2 Kings 20 to Nehemiah 3, 84 chapters.
Judah falls to Babylon and Jerusalem burns. Then Chronicles retells the whole story from Adam to the exile, written for people who came home afterward and needed to know who they were. Expect the family lists of 1 Chronicles 1 to 9; skim them if you need to, and slow down for David's prayer and the building of the temple. Second Chronicles follows only the kings of Judah, and it ends with a decree from Cyrus of Persia that lets the exiles go home. Ezra tells of the return and the rebuilt temple, and Nehemiah begins work on Jerusalem's walls.
Watch for the decree of Cyrus that ends 2 Chronicles.
if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.2 Chronicles 7:14
